When a local and an expat team up!

We met each other in Toastmasters, a public speaking club in Lisbon.

My name is João, and I was born and raised in Setúbal, a paradise only 40 minutes away from Lisbon. I moved to Lisbon to study business and work and fell in love with the city. I had the chance to live in Estoril, Cascais, and Lisbon (including 3 years in a boat).

In the past few years, I’ve been involved in Real Estate projects, managed property renovations, helped clients purchase and finance properties with the best mortgage solutions, provided tours in Lisbon, and traveled around Europe and Asia. The lure of coming back to my beloved Portugal was too strong and now I’m back, and want to welcome you, and help you integrate into my wonderful country!

Now it’s Matt’s turn!

My name is Matt and I grew up in the UK but 12 years ago, I moved to Lagos, in the sunny Algarve, after traveling around 75 countries, and I love it here. It’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s a paradise. But it wasn’t always this easy.

I spent my first few years in Portugal figuring out how to do everything ‘the Portuguese way’ by trial and error, as most expats do, however the lessons I learned along the way enabled me to help people at the beginning of their journey.

In addition to starting Portugalxpert, I started and ran multiple businesses across Europe, I’ve been a property developer in Portugal and regularly work as a business coach and mentor, helping people start successful businesses in Portugal and beyond.
